Can HOA Suspend Me From Facebook Page?

Question:

can 2 board members who are the administrators of the Facebook Hoa page suspend a resident who has made a comment on the continued problems of our working security gate for 30 days without notice of what the actual violation is ? It happened to me , when I asked the HOA president and administrator , she said it was a text among the 5 board members I should be suspended. Come to find out she lied and the 3 other board members had no knowledge of it . I feel my freedom of speech as a resident is being denied to me and would like to find out what I can do ?
Any help would be appreciated as they have done this to other residents in our community of 222 homes .

Thank you

– Thomas

Answer:

Hi Thomas,

It is best to check your HOA’s social media policy to see if you committed a violation. If you did, then the board likely has authority to impose the suspension. If you have concerns about your security gate, make sure to submit your complaint or work order through the proper channels. Perhaps you may raise your concern at an open board meeting or approach your HOA board directly.
