HOA Prohibiting Resident from Contacting the Vendor

Question:

We had Certapro come out to power wash our condos and I just had a new deck installed and I called Certa pro to ask if they’re putting ladders on the decks Cause I didn’t want mine damaged. It clearly states on the head letter that we received from CertaPro that if we had any questions to feel free to contact the the names mentioned on the letter. I got a threatening letter from my condo association stating that if I contact the vendor again that I can possibly go to a hearing , again I’m paying for it, thanks

Answer:

Hi Anthony,

Kindly review the community’s rules regarding communicating with vendors. This may help you understand how to effectively communicate with the vendor and whether or not you need to go through the HOA to coordinate.

You may also speak with the association board or attend a board meeting to ask why you cannot contact the vendor directly. They may be able to explain the reason behind their actions. Speaking to them directly may also resolve any misunderstandings that may have occurred.

If there are no misunderstandings, you may also seek a compromise with the board. If this does not help, you may also seek alternative dispute resolution to resolve the issue. For further guidance, kindly consult a lawyer.
