Management Company Has Policies That HOA Must Follow

Question:

Our property management company appears to be frustrated with us and complains that they have policies that we must follow. We pay the PM for their services, so I had thought that they worked for us. Shouldn’t they at least provide their policies to us in writing, so we understand how they work. And when we find out that we do in fact meet their policies, and they are still complaining, is that a reason to find another PM company.

Answer:

Hi Jonathan,

It is best to take your concerns directly to your property management company. Ask them to provide their policies in writing so that there is no confusion or misunderstanding. Additionally, you should review your management contract. Your contract might contain the policies and other requirements of your property management company. The decision on whether or not you should find another property management company depends on your board.
