Additional Insurance Requirements for Florida HOAs With Pets

Question:

Is there a state law that requires Florida HOA elected management Boards to purchase additional protection (insurance) in case a dog weighing more than 40 lbs that they permitted an owner to possess attacks someone on the premises?

Answer:

Hi Hubert,

Florida law currently does not require this. However, you should check your association’s governing documents to see if they contain specific insurance requirements. Even if your governing documents don’t require it, it may be worth considering purchasing additional protection if your HOA has a large pet population.
