Can’t Find Enough HOA Volunteers in OH

Question:

We cannot find enough volunteers to run our developments HOA. What are our options?

– Dave

Answer:

Hi Dave,

If you have vacancies on your board, the remaining board members may appoint persons to fill them, as per Section 5312.04 of the Ohio Planned Community Law, shown below:

“(B) A board may act in all instances on behalf of an association unless otherwise provided in this chapter, the declaration, or bylaws. The board may appoint persons to fill vacancies in its membership for the unexpired portion of any term.”

However, if you have trouble getting owners to volunteer to run for positions in the first place, or if your appointees turn down the offer, there are other ways you can attract owners to serve on the board.
