Finding an HOA in Indiana

Question:

Earlier this year, myself and I’m sure every homeowner received a letter from the HOA apologizing for the delay in receiving our yearly bill due to “unseen circumstances.” This turned out to be they are the new HOA.

I reached out to the contact on this letter about storage sheds as they are/were not allowed and will be discussed in the upcoming HOA meeting. I stated to this person via text that a shed has become a necessity more than anything. I was unable to attend the meeting as I was out of town. After returning, I reached out again and this person has resigned from the HOA. To note, I was a member on the Facebook page of the community which seemed to be operated by this same person as my question about sheds is still pending approval and no other new posts have been posted.

I see other homes with sheds and I dont know if they are “illegal” or preapproved or what. I do not want to put up a shed and receive a letter to take it down.

Fast forward a few months and I receive a letter to remove Christmas lights and I complied. I call the phone number that is on the letter and it is either “disconnected or no longer in service.”

I’ve searched online many times for a contact. The only contact I was able to find online was the same person who had resigned. I plan on going to court to see if I can find a contact which I doubt will be of any help.

How do I find out who the HOA is and their contacts?

Answer:

Hi Hassan,

You may ask your neighbors who previously attended the board meeting if they have information about who the current board members are. They may also have the HOA board’s contact information.

Alternatively, you may check the Indiana Secretary of State’s website as you may be able to search the HOA if it is incorporated. The website may provide you with the HOA’s mailing address and registered agent, which might help you in your search of who to contact. You can also contact the county recorder’s office as they maintain records of HOA filings.
