Question:
Our former HOA board appropriated a management firm without a membership vote. I haven’t received any meeting minutes or a newsletter from the board since Dec last year. They did mention they were going to be discussing the possibility at that time. Meanwhile 7 months later I get a statement from a management company. I have zero idea who is on the board, if we have a board, who is taking pics of our property, what the process of engaging is. Can you share any insight into this situation. I think acquiring a mgmt firm would be one important enough to involve all members like we did the updated CCnRs . I don’t know how many board members even voted for new board members if we have them much less a change in management. Please advise. This is in Arizona.

Answer:
Hi Dawn,
Generally, an HOA board has the authority to hire a management company without the vote of the membership unless your governing documents say otherwise. Board elections usually happen every year at the annual meeting. It is best to approach your HOA manager or board and bring your concerns to them.
