HOA Limiting Meeting Attendees in Indiana

Question:

Being a member of an Indiana HOA association can they deny me entry to a to a posted meeting. They set the limit to 300 people, it is full, and we have over that number of houses.

– Kent

Answer:

Hi Kent,

Both the Indiana Homeowners Association Act and the Indiana Condominium Act talk about the right of members to attend meetings. According to these statutes, members have a right to attend all meetings, except for the executive session. That being said, your board may be limiting the number of attendees based on occupancy and safety regulations of the space or building. In that case, talk to your board about holding the meeting in a larger space that can accommodate everyone.
