HOA Maintenance of Abandoned Home in PA

Question:

Hello, I live in a community that has HOA, all townhouses. A couple months ago the house next to me was abandoned, and was “winterized” by Guardian Asset management, there hasn’t been anyone working in the home to re sell it and the front garden has been over growing into our home. We are soon listing our home for sale and I’m afraid that this will affect market value. I have contacted the hoa to ask what they’re going to do about this situation, as the house has and looks completely abandoned.

What can the HOA do in this situation?

– Patricia

Answer:

Hi Patricia,

The HOA will likely contact the last known owner of the home to conduct proper maintenance. If the owner cannot be contacted or determined, the HOA may be able to take care of the maintenance itself, provided state laws and its governing documents allow this.
