HOA Not Maintaining Flower Beds in Louisiana

Question:

Old River Place Subdivision in south Bossier Parish. I paid my dues and so did others in the subdivision. I ask why flowers beds and lights are not being maintained. I was told that the HOA insurance had lapsed, now we can not get information on this issue! My question is do home owners have to pay dues any more? HOA group does not respond to questions.

Answer:

Hi Lisa,

Typically, an HOA’s insurance provider is not responsible for maintaining lights and flower beds in the community, unless it is a covered risk. It is the responsibility of the HOA to maintain common areas. While it might seem wise to stop paying dues because of your HOA’s inaction, it is still best to continue paying them. Homeowners have an obligation to the association, not the board. If your HOA board is not taking action, consider removing them from their position and electing a new board with more responsible members.
