HOA Not Responding to Homeowner Requests in Colorado

Question:

I live in a new build community with homes still actively being built. Several of the homeowners have complaints about the greenspaces not being maintained, overgrowth of weeds, stagnant water and trash in the drains. Several of us have made request to the HOA but nothing has been done. What can I do to ensure that our HOA follows through with homeowners requests? Please and Thank You.

Answer:

Hi Ashley,

First, make sure your requests to the HOA are made and submitted in writing. If the HOA does not respond to these written requests, try to get in contact with the HOA through email or by phone. Attend board meetings, if you can, as most HOAs hold a homeowner forum during the open session of board meetings. This is when you can raise your concern. Beyond that, if your HOA still refuses to respond to you, it would be best to seek legal advice from an HOA lawyer.
