HOA Prohibitions on Political Candidate Speeches

Question:

Can an HOA prohibit a political candidate from visiting and make a speech to a particular club with attendance restricted to solely residents within the community. No outsiders or campaign fundraising. Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Bob,

South Carolina law is silent on this topic. Kindly refer to the governing documents to see if such restrictions are in place or whether the board has those powers. For further guidance, kindly consult an attorney.
