HOA Reasonable Accommodations in Maryland

Question:

I am a disabled Homeowner. I pay the HOA dues even though the pool I am supposed to be able to use isn’t handicap accessible and the place where our residents meetings are held, has stairs I can’t climb. The dues continue to be raised and I should be able to use the things I am paying for. Isn’t my HOA supposed to have reasonable accommodations so that I have access to these things?

– Christina

Answer:

Hi Christina,

Consider filing a request for reasonable accommodation with your HOA under the Fair Housing Act. There may be documents that you must supply or forms that you may need to fill out. Ask your HOA board or HOA manager for assistance.
