HOA Threatening to Tow Repainted Vehicle in Maryland

Question:

My family purchased a townhome in an Edgewood, MD in 2014. we have always parked our personal vehicles and my husbands work van without any complaints. Recently my husband’s company was re-named and therefore changed the logo (via wrapping) on his work van. Now all of a sudden the HOA is claiming that we have a “new” vehicle that is against the HOA rules. How do we dispute this as it is the same vehicle and we have been parking it in the same spot for 9 years without complaint? They are threatening to tow it.

Answer:

Hi,

Check your association’s governing documents to be sure of the HOA’s rules regarding vehicles and parking. You may also want to approach the board or HOA manager to resolve the dispute verbally. Bring documentation such as photos of the vehicle (before and after) as well as registrations to prove that it is the same vehicle. There may just be a misunderstanding that is causing the HOA to tag it as a new vehicle.
