Owner Complains About Kids in a Virginia HOA

Question:

Common area is our parking lot. Why isn’t the board doing anything about kids playing in the parking lot, such as throwing balls, playing with toy guns, riding bikes around owners cars, mine have bee damaged several times. I feel it’s discrimination. What can I do as they are tenants.

Answer:

Hi Chantel,

If you have a complaint about the kids in your neighborhood, it may be a good idea to talk to your neighbors first. You can bring this issue to your HOA board as well, as the board may not be aware of what’s happening. Additionally, the board can only take enforcement actions if the actions are violating the community’s rules. Check your rules to see if the kids are violating them.
