It has come to my attention that my HOA cannot limit parking in street during Trash Pickup Days because we have “public streets”. This was a Single-Family community when I purchased in 1992. It seems that some properties have split into two households per residence and there are up to 5+ vehicles to a residence now. Some homes are “community housing”. Street parking makes movement a Major Hazard and people complain about slow Waste Disposal services. I’m concerned we’ll lose ALL WD Service with the parking sistuation. One company uses robotic-truck pickup and they dropped us. I keep running into articles that state that HOAs can indeed restrict parking to garage parking or parking in front of residence only. Is that true in my zipcode 77082? “It might seem unfair, but the HOA can make you park your vehicle in your garage. Associations usually do this for vehicles that don’t meet their standards or are prohibited within the community. It’s a matter of preserving aesthetics and keeping the community appealing to the eyes.”

You should check your HOA’s governing documents for confirmation. Your governing documents should be able to tell you about your parking rules (if any) and whether or not your HOA can enforce them. That being said, make sure to check your local ordinances and laws as well when it comes to street parking. Your HOA may not have jurisdiction over public streets but local authorities still do. Perhaps local law enforcement can help with your parking situation.
