Problems With Recruiting Board Members

Question:

Five out of seven board members on our H.O.A have indicated that they will not be on the board next year. Recruiting new members has been difficult in recent years, but we (current board members), have failed to find anyone willing to serve, despite reaching out to many homeowners over the last several months.
We have a management company in place, but what happens if we do not have a board.?

Answer:

Hi,

If you’re having trouble recruiting homeowners to join the HOA board, here is an article that may help: https://www.hoamanagement.com/hoa-board-member-recruitment-letter/

That being said, check your governing documents to know the options you have. You may be able to keep the board and the HOA running with only a few board members. If an HOA goes without a functioning board, a court might appoint a receiver to conduct the affairs of the association.
