Right to Know HOA Board Members in Ohio

Question:

Do homeowners have the right to know the names of the board members? We have a management group that handles payments, etc, that says because the board members are volunteers, we do not have the right to know who they are.

Answer:

Hi Janet,

While Ohio law does not expressly state that homeowners have a right to know the board members, HOAs generally should provide this information when requested. Additionally, such information is available to members anyway through the annual elections. You may request to examine the books and records of the association, which may include membership lists, minutes of meetings, and election records, as per Section 5312.07 of the Ohio Planned Community Law.
