Question:
Our HOA is 20 years old and we are in the state of Ohio, we are a small community (58) homes of mostly elderly residents ages 50-80. It’s hard to get volunteers to be on board. I’ve been president for over 10 years as no one wants the position. There are 4 other Board members, and we can usually get one new Board member every 2 years. Our initial management company
a mom & pop organization did an excellent job for us but then they sold the business to a BIG
Management company and costs have exploded under them, I’ve checked with other management firms but costs even higher…there’s no more mom & pop firms.
Question: Can an Ohio HOA quit using a management firm & take over the responsibilities of running the HOA themselves. I’ve heard different answers to our question.
Would appreciate your expertise on this matter.
Thank you,
– Sherry
Answer:
Hi Sherry,
HOAs in Ohio may be self-managed by the board of directors. However, it may be more challenging as the board and HOA committees will have to handle all the operations themselves, which requires volunteers.
