Service Dog Attacked By Unleashed Pet

Question:

My service dog was attacked while out on a walk by a pitbull that was not on its leash. What do I do?

Answer:

Hi Daija,

If your HOA has a rule requiring all pets to be on leashes and the pitbull’s owner violated that rule, report the incident to your HOA board or manager. They will be responsible for the enforcement actions. If that is not a rule in your HOA, consider asking your board to make it one. Keeping pets leashed while in the common areas is a good way to promote safety. You might also want to speak to the pitbull’s owner and work it out with them if there are any unresolved issues.
