Tracing the HOA Management Company

Question:

Hello,My home is in the Long Reach community of Columbia- The HOA is Stoney Run.
I have HOA dues auto debited from my account every quarter but I am unable to find the management company for the HOA.
I have reached out to Long Reach and half a dozen management companies. The wonderful folks at Long Reach have been helping me all week as well.
The management company that reached out to me when I first purchased hte house is bankrupt (GS Associates)It’s parent management company does not manage my property. (Hartkoh Company)Stoney Run HOA manages only part of the townhomes (I believe that are part of subsideized housing) but not my house.
I am very frustrated. Who has been taking my money?
Can you please help? What shall I do?

– Nina

Answer:

Hi Nina,

The HOA that oversees your home and its board members should know who the HOA management company is as they should have signed a contract with them. Kindly contact the board members to ask them about the management company.

If your house is not under Stoney Run HOA, you may ask your neighbors or Stoney Run HOA if they know the HOA that oversees your home. Apart from this, you may verify which HOA your home falls under by reviewing the HOA’s governing documents, specifically the articles of incorporation. These documents should include the name of the association. You should have received these documents when you first bought the home.

You may also contact the Maryland Secretary of State to ask who the registered agent is for your HOA. This may be the HOA attorney or manager who may help you contact the management company. You may also reach out to the local county or city government for assistance.
