Unresponsive HOA Board in Illinois

Question:

I rent and have had numerous flooding issues. My Landlady and myself have had nothing but issues with the HOA. The woman hangs up on us and ignores us. Now she is not responding for 3 days, What can my landlady do?
Is there someone she can call?

– Mary

Answer:

Hi Mary,

Your landlord may try to exhaust all channels of communication including electronic and physical mail. Kindly check the governing documents to see whether there is a designated response period the board must follow. The landlord may also bring up the concern at a board meeting. If all else fails, they may opt to remove the problem board member(s). If the association is incorporated as a non-profit, you may follow the guidelines from the Illinois General Not For Profit Corporation Act of 1986 Section 108.35.

For further guidance, kindly consult a lawyer.
