What to Do About a Problem HOA Board Member in Maryland

Question:

We have a board member who sued our HOA. This information was not disclosed to homeowners prior to the follow on election. Therefore, this person was reelected to the board. Primarily all other board members quit becauseof this person. This board member continually has a self serving agenda and monthly meetings are a nightmare. This year, one board member already quit and 3 others are considering it because this person is so difficult and at times combative during meetings despite a call to order. What can be done?

Answer:

Hi Michele,

If you have a problem board member, you should consider removing them from the board. The process and requirements for removing a board member should be contained in your governing documents, specifically your bylaws. Typically, it involves calling a special meeting with the agenda of removing a board member and is then followed by a vote.
