What to Do If a Homeowner Dies in an HOA

Question:

What happens when a home owner of the HOA dies and their relatives do not take control. In our case the home went to HUD and now we are without any monthly funds for a year and HUD lets it set. This is a townhouse association of 11 townhomes. It has also been under managed so not enough in reserve, etc.

Answer:

Hi Margo,

If the house is now under the control of HUD, your HOA may want to speak with HUD to settle the matter. Typically, when a homeowner dies, they leave a will, and the financial obligations will transfer to the beneficiary/ies.
