Just bought a condo unit in Florida and I’m wondering if I need to buy homeowners insurance if my association already has condo insurance

I guess it depends on the policy your condo association has, but I’m guessing you’ll need a separate policy for yourself too.

A typical master insurance policy for condos does not cover individual unit owners. It may cover common elements such as windows and shared walls, but not the ones physically inside your own unit. So yes, the short answer is you will need your own coverage.

I do advise you to check with your condo board to confirm what the master policy covers. That way you know what policy to get for your own unit. That being said a HO-6 policy is great because it covers both the walls and those inside the walls (including your personal belongings). It also usually covers liability.
