Our management company that shall remain nameless is charging our HOA extra for every board meeting our manager attends. It amounts to something like $200 per meeting, which is absolutely absurd to me. Is this kind of thing normal or are we getting scammed?

Hi Jerome. It’s normal for a management company to charge an extra fee for board meetings. The last two companies we had did that. If you don’t like it, consider changing your management company. The one we have now doesn’t charge us extra for that service which I think is a good deal since it’s part of the manager’s job to know everything that’s going on in the community.

Management companies do charge extra fees for things like that because they have to incur additional expenses such as travel costs. If you have your board meetings at night like we do, it’s also outside of office hours so the extra charge is reasonable.
