I’ve noticed over the past year or so that the headlights on my 2015 Audi A3 are starting to look really hazy and yellowed, which is not only ugly but I’m pretty sure it’s reducing how well I can see at night, especially on those poorly lit roads we have in some areas. I’ve tried one of those DIY restoration kits from the auto store, you know the ones with the sanding pads and the polishing compound, and honestly it made a slight improvement but the haze came back within a couple of months and now it looks even worse than before. I’ve read that professional detailers have more heavy-duty equipment and compounds that can actually restore the clarity of the plastic lenses permanently, and some even apply a UV coating afterwards to stop it from happening again. I’m a bit skeptical though because the plastic is actually degraded at a deeper level, not just surface oxidation, so I’m not sure if polishing can really fix that or if I’m better off just replacing the headlight units entirely. I was talking to a colleague who said that a good detailer can work wonders on cloudy headlights and make them look almost new again, so I’ve been thinking about giving it a shot before I spend the money on new headlight assemblies.
