I live in a townhouse community, and my next-door neighbors have three young kids who are always outside making noise. I understand kids play, but it’s constant screaming, running, and even banging on my fence. I’ve already tried talking to them, but they brushed me off. Would it be reasonable to ask the HOA to step in? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I get your frustration, but HOAs usually won’t get involved unless the noise violates specific rules. Check your community’s CC&Rs. If there are quiet hours, you might have a case. Otherwise, this is more of a neighbor-to-neighbor issue.

Before escalating to the HOA, have you tried talking to them again? Maybe approach them at a different time and frame it as a request rather than a complaint. If they still don’t care, then yeah, maybe bring it up with the HOA—if there are rules against excessive noise.

Our HOA won’t do anything unless it’s after a certain hour. I once complained about a neighbor’s loud music, and they told me they could only step in if it was past 10 PM. Check the rules first. If nothing applies, you might just have to deal with it or use noise-canceling headphones.
