I’ve got a 2014 FJ Cruiser that I absolutely love for weekend desert trips, but recently I’ve started feeling a noticeable vibration under the floorpan whenever I accelerate from a standstill, especially if I’m turning at the same time. It’s not a violent shaking, but it’s definitely there, and I’m starting to worry it might be something in the drivetrain like a worn universal joint or maybe a problem with the driveshaft itself. I’ve had a quick look underneath and I can’t see anything obviously broken or loose, but I know these FJs can have issues with the rear driveshaft center bearing or the U-joints drying out and developing play. I’m based in the Musaffah area and I’m looking for a workshop that actually has experience with 4×4 drivetrain components, because I don’t want to take it to a general garage that might not know the specific quirks of the FJ’s suspension and driveline. I’ve heard that there’s a certified driveshaft repair in Musaffah Industrial that can handle balancing and U-joint replacement properly, but I’d rather get a recommendation from someone who’s actually used a particular shop. Has anyone here had driveshaft work done on their FJ or similar Toyota 4×4 and found a reliable workshop in the area? Also, is it worth replacing the U-joints as a preventative measure if the driveshaft has to come out anyway, or should I just fix what’s actually worn out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I’m starting to get a bit nervous about the vibration getting worse. Cheers.
