Tasty Memorial Day Recipes for a Memorable Meal

Memorial Day is all about honoring the veterans who gave their lives in service to the nation. Many families and friends gather during this time of the year to celebrate the holiday together. And, of course, no gathering would be complete without a feast.

Here are the best recipes for Memorial Day meals.

 

1. Avocado Dip

If you’re looking for Memorial Day recipes for a crowd, this avocado dip is both nutritious and a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2 cup whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup packed basil leaves
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon zest
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, mined
  • 1 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Pita chips, to serve
  • Cut raw vegetables, to serve

Directions:

  1. Blend together the avocados, Greek yogurt, green onion, basil, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, garlic, and cayenne pepper until smooth. Scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula and blend again as needed.
  2. Transfer the prepared avocado dip to a large bowl. Serve with pita chips and cut vegetables on the side.

 

2. Charm City Corn

It’s often hard to find simple Memorial Day recipes that will also impress, but this one’s a keeper.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ears corn
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • Green hot sauce
  • Salt

Directions:

  1. Cut each corn cob into thirds.
  2. Combine the water and milk in a pot. Add a pinch of salt and boil the water/milk mixture. Once boiling, add the corn to the pot and cook for about 5 minutes. Drain.
  3. Add the butter, Old Bay seasoning, and hot sauce to the same pot. Add a pinch of salt to taste. Let the butter melt before tossing the corn in the butter sauce. Make sure to coat the corn entirely.
  4. Transfer to a plate and serve.

 

3. Loaded Baked Potato Salad

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices cooked bacon, chopped, divided
  • 4 lbs Russet potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar
  • 1 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup pickle juice
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions, plus more to serve
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped pickles
  • 1 tbsp ranch seasoning
  • 2 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400˚F.
  2. Arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet. Prick the potatoes all over with a fork. Bake in the oven for about an hour or until fork tender. Allow to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Once cool, peel the potatoes and cut them into 1-inch pieces. Combine the chopped potatoes and pickle juice in a bowl. Set aside for another hour.
  4. Combine the sour cream, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, ranch seasoning, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl. Pour this mixture over the potatoes. Add chopped bacon, green onion, and cheese. Toss gently to combine.
  5. Place the potato salad into the refrigerator until ready to serve. Top with more chopped bacon and green onions before serving.

 

4. The Perfect Basic Burger

Burgers are a staple summer food. This one hits it out of the park if you want easy Memorial Day recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs

Directions:

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill on high heat. Brush lightly with oil.
  2. Whisk together egg, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add ground beef and bread crumbs. Using your hands or a fork, mix until well incorporated.
  3. Form the beef mixture into four patties about 3/4-inch thick each.

  • Pickled jalapeño slices, for garnish
  • Chopped red onion, for garnish
  • Ketchup, for garnish
  • Mustard, for garnish
  • Potato chips, for serving

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven or grill to 375°F.
  2. Make shallow, diagonal cuts into each hot dog, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Wrap each hot dog with a piece of bacon. Use a wooden pick to secure the ends and prevent them from falling apart. Season with garlic powder and chili powder (optional).
  3. For baking, take a rimmed baking sheet and line it with foil. Place a baking rack over the sheet. Arrange the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on the rack. Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the bacon comes out crispy, turning them halfway through.
  4. For grilling, arrange the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on the grill. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until the bacon comes out crispy, turning them occasionally.

  2. In a heavy skillet, heat oil over medium heat. In batches, fry the chicken for about 5 minutes per side until the outside is golden brown. Place on paper towels to drain the excess oil.
