Annexing adjoining lots

    Our Association has been asked by a property owner to annex a vacant lot adjoining the defined subdivsion. Is this type of request typical? From the HOA perspective, what are the pros and cons that need to be addressed to annex an adjoining lot?

    It’s not a typical request coming from a property owner, I’d say.

    Not sure what you mean by annexing an adjoining lot. Does that mean the HOA makes the lot part of the association? Does the owner want to buy the vacant lot and make it part of his home?

    To clarify: the property owner has asked the Association to include the adjoining lot (that is not in the subdivision) as part of the Association ( subject to all the R&R in the covenants). The owner plans to build a drive and home that spans both pieces of property.

    I’m not sure what the pros and cons would be. It sounds like you’ll just be including another lot under the HOA, which would probably mean more dues (if that’s how your dues are divvied up). The owner should be responsible for most other things like landscaping, maintenance, etc.
