Several women have come forward complaining of a Hallandale Beach HOA president’s harassment of them. And the co-op association may find itself in equally hot water.

Verbal Abuse Caught on Camera

A camera has captured footage of a Hallandale Beach co-op president verbally abusing a female resident. The resident was on their way to the laundry room when the man, Larry Reinfeld, called her a profane name.

Reinfeld, the president of Building V in Ro-Len Lake Gardens, has been the subject of multiple allegations. Several female residents have accused Reinfeld of verbal abuse and harassment. The treatment has caused them to feel afraid every time they step out of their apartments.

The woman in the video told local news that Reinfeld’s behavior was not unusual for him. According to her, the abuse began after her contractor scratched the paint off a walkway. After that incident, Reinfeld has been yelling orders at her, even calling her expletives and profanities.

“He’s like, ‘[expletive] you, [expletive] you, shut up, shut up,’” the resident, who asked not to be identified, said. “It was so bad I was shaking.”

It got so bad that she called the police on him and reported him to the vice president of the building. The vice president advised her to “keep [her] door shut and [her] blinds closed.” She also wrote to the association about the president’s behavior, but the HOA failed to take action.

Other Cases of Harassment from Women

Another resident, Deborah Erlichson, also experienced verbal abuse at the hands of Reinfeld. He apparently makes fun of her speech impediment and even throws a chair at her door after finding it too far out in the walkway. He even reportedly calls her slurs.

Erlichson finally had enough and took him to court. The judge issued a restraining order.

Reinfeld also threw a palm frond at the front door of another resident, Natalia Williams. Reinfeld accused her of stealing and selling marijuana. Williams, who walks with a cane, does not feel safe leaving her unit anymore.

When Reinfeld spoke to court deputies, he claimed that the women were harassing him.

Co-op Could Face Liability Due to HOA President’s Harassment

The co-op may find itself in hot water, according to Attorney Andrew Blasi, who doesn’t represent the residents or the HOA. According to Blasi, there is case law that could find the association legally liable for emotional stress and harassment if the residents were to file a civil suit.

The association is currently investigating the issue.
