Exactly! Pressure washers are actually way more efficient with water than just hosing the car down. You’re being more eco-friendly, honestly. Maybe point that out to them if they try to come at you again. And like @serena_28 mentioned, if it’s not in writing, they don’t have the authority to enforce it.

Yeah, I’ve seen some HOAs put weird rules like this in place, especially in drought-prone areas. They might be concerned about water restrictions or runoff into the street. I know in some places, you can’t let certain chemicals or dirt flow into the storm drains. But if you’re using just water or eco-friendly soap, I don’t see the harm. I’d push back and ask them to show you the rule that says you can’t do it. They can’t just make up rules without something to back it up!

That was my understanding as well. Unfortunately, we are a pretty old association with a lot of outdated components that are way past their prime. We only recently decided to get a reserve study done (our reserves were not really a priority until it became apparent that they were necessary). I suppose it is the association’s fault for not paying attention to this sooner. I just find it unfair that we homeowners are now left to pick up the pieces because past officers did not do their job well.

Turn to your governing documents. Your bylaws and CC&Rs likely dictate the enforcement and maintenance obligations of the HOA/developer. If this is not followed, you may want to look into taking legal action to compel the HOA to act.

In that case you will have to check your bylaws to see what qualifications candidates need to have. If your bylaws are silent perhaps its time to consider changing them…

The above is correct. In some states, it is even required BY LAW to be in good standing to run for a position on the board. States I know of are Florida and California.

If the increase is to catch up on reserves, then maybe you should just pay it. Underfunded reserves can bite you in the a, trust me. You don’t want another Surfside condominium disaster.
